Chad Elliott is in the studio this week working on a new album. The album, titled “Ringgold,” will likely be released in the spring.
“I was born in Ringgold County in Southern Iowa. This album is about family, home and my life as a songwriter for the past 20 years. It takes a trip back to my roots, my hometown of Lamoni. In fact, we’re recording in my grandfolks' house,” Elliott said. Elliott purchased his grandfather’s home last fall and set up a recording studio in the basement. “I decided in order to get the soul of these songs, I really needed to be in a place of my childhood to get that magic connection with the music. I am very happy I did. My kids get to hang out around the musicians and see what their daddy does for a living. The heart of this album, ‘Ringgold,’ is going to be unmistakable,” Elliott said. With the help of Johnny Audette as mixing engineer and Texas guitar player and songwriter Tommy Lewis as co-producer, production of the album is running smooth. Elliott will be joined by players such as Lewis, Jim Van Dorn and Dave Hearn. All three frequently appear with Elliott on tour. Fans can expect Ringgold to have the full-band vibe carried at Elliott’s live shows. “I have played with these guys throughout the last year and we have formed a pretty tight unit. I also have Joe Cafaro on upright bass, Nathan Emerson on pedal steel guitar and Kevin Boehnke on trumpet. Another highlight on ‘Ringgold’ is The Pale Moons duo member Anna Kopaska on some soulful harmonies throughout the album. All in all, I am very excited to have such amazing people on this album,” Elliott said. Ringgold will include recent crowd-favorites, such as the hard-hitting ballad “I Am Thunder, I Am Lightning,” and the deeper tones of “Highway Symphony.” Elliott has been performing these songs on stages across the United States over the past year, getting them ready for the record. “I’m very excited to share these songs,” Elliott said. A release date for Ringgold will be announced when the album is in post-production. For now, be sure to catch Chad Elliott on tour and request a song live.
